How Durable Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are designed to strengthen and protect teeth. They are one of the most versatile treatments in both general and cosmetic dentistry, most commonly used to:

  • Restore broken teeth
  • Protect a tooth with a large amount of decay (instead of a filling)
  • Protect weak teeth from breaking
  • Attach bridges
  • Cap a dental implant

The durability of a dental crown depends on the material it is made of, and how well it is placed. At Divine Smiles, our experienced Winchester MA dentists use an in-house CEREC machine to manufacture custom dental crowns that can be created and placed in a single day. Our crowns are made from a strong dental-grade porcelain that is designed to last for a decade or more.

Although crowns can withstand the same amount of force as a natural tooth, this does not mean they are invincible. Like a real tooth, crowns can fracture under the right circumstances. You should be careful when chewing hard or sticky foods, and never use your teeth as an opening or cutting tool. With good care, you can expect your dental crowns to protect your smile for many years to come.

If you have further questions about dental crowns, please contact Divine Smiles today or call (781) 396-8558 to schedule a smile consultation with our experienced Winchester MA dentists. We serve patients in Woburn and Winchester, Massachusetts.
