Do I Need Full Face Orthodontics or Invisalign?

When it comes to choosing an orthodontic treatment that’s right for you, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. With so many options available, you might not know which one to choose. At Divine Smiles in Woburn, MA, we offer both Invisalign treatment and full face orthodontics. However, certain patients might experience more benefits with one treatment more than the other. Discover which orthodontic treatment is right for you.

Full Face Orthodontics

Also known as epigenetic orthodontics, full face orthodontics do more than just straighten your teeth, they factor in your entire facial proportions. While we straighten your teeth, we also help your jaw grow to accommodate your new tooth position. We also help your jaw grow into its ideal position. This type of treatment is the perfect solution for patients who have severe bite problems and those who may suffer from TMJ. Patients who have an underdeveloped jaw can also benefit from this treatment.

If a previous dentist has told you that you need jaw surgery or tooth extractions to solve your misaligned teeth and bite problems, please visit us for a full face orthodontics consultation.

Your full face orthodontic treatment will begin with using a special appliance to guide your jaw growth. This extra jaw growth is to accommodate more room for your crowded teeth. This prevents the need for extractions. Once there is enough room for your teeth, we start to move your teeth into their ideal position.

Invisalign

If you have mildly crooked, crowded, or misaligned teeth, we may recommend Invisalign treatment instead of full face orthodontics. Invisalign can help you achieve the same beautiful and straight smile as full face orthodontics but excludes growing your jaw to accommodate room for your teeth.

The treatment is very straight forward, comfortable and convenient. First, we will take digital impressions of your teeth and x-rays to send off to the Invisalign lab. We will also decide every movement your teeth will take throughout your entire treatment. Once your aligners return from the Invisalign lab, you will wear them for two weeks for at least 22 hours per day. Once your two weeks are up, you will move onto the next set of aligners. You will continue this cycle until the end of your treatment and include checkups with us every six weeks or so.

You can expect to see your results in as little as six months’ time or longer depending on your needs. Invisalign is completely comfortable and discreet which makes it ideal for both teens and adults. You can remove your clear aligners at any time to eat, drink, or brush your teeth. Since they are nearly invisible, you don’t have to worry about having an unsightly smile for your entire treatment.

If you’re ready to transform your smile with orthodontics but aren’t too sure which treatment is right for you, please schedule a consultation with one of our dentists in Woburn by calling (781) 396-8558 today. We will recommend the perfect treatment to help you reach your goals.
